Srinagar: Additional Director General (ADG)Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that the conman posing himself as senior IPS officer and enjoying z-plus security cover in Kashmir was not an “intelligence breach” rather a case of “carelessness”.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a man who posed as a top official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and held meetings with officials of the Union Territory. He even visited border posts in the Kashmir Valley and other places of strategic importance in Kashmir.
The police have identified him as Kiran Bhai Patel from Gujarat.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a football match in Srinagar on Sunday Kumar said “the mistake which has happened …we are looking for those who will be found involved would not be spread”, he said.
He said “It could not be considered a breach of an intelligence rather a mistake of carelessness that we are looking into”.
ADGP Kumar said when Srinagar police came to know about him on March 2 that a person was staying at a hotel posing himself as a senior IPS officer, he was caught red handed alongwith a fake visiting card.
He said a case was registered against him and he was arrested at the same time. He remained in police custody on remand for 14 days and was rigorously interrogated.
“Presently he is in jail under judicial remand. We are probing the case professionally and taking the help of Bihar police also. Nobody would be spared in this case found involved”, he added.
