Police arrest 5 drug peddlers in Kashmir

Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla districts of Kashmir valley and recovered contraband substances from them.
A police party at Behibagh during checking at Noonmai arrested a drug peddler identified as Bashir Ahmad Khan a resident of Matipora and recovered 5 Kgs of poppy straw concealed in a polythene bag from him.
The accused has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, Police said.
Acting on a specific information regarding the presence of narcotics at a suspected location in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar, a police team raided at Nippora and recovered 4 Kgs of poppy straw, 1 digital weighing machine and 1 mixer from the residential house of Nisar Ahmad Khanday.
Subsequently, the owner of the house along with his associate identified as Pawan Sharma a resident of R S Pora at present Nippora have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
A police party of Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Bandi Uri arrested two drug peddlers identified as Syed Mubeen Hussain a resident of Niloosa and Mohd Arif Khan of Bagna Noorkhah.
During the search, 86 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession. Both the accused were arrested.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police added.
