Srinagar: Police in Kashmir on Thursday claimed to have solved a robbery case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of crime and recovered a dummy weapon and other incriminating materials from his possession in Budgam district.
Police said on February 14, 2023 Police Station Chadoora received a complaint that on February 13 during the wee hours at Bandipora Chadoora, a person while on his way to Masjid was intercepted by an unidentified armed person and robbed him of some cash.
Police registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Chadoora and investigation was taken up when one suspect identified as Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh a resident of Raithan Chak Khansahab was called for questioning.
Moreover, CCTV footage from the place of the incident was analysed and the same corroborated with the version of the victim, which confirmed the involvement of the accused in the commission of crime.
The accused was arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
During further questioning, the suspect confessed his involvement in the commission of crime and on his disclosure 2 dummy AK-47 Rifles, camouflage trouser, camouflage shirt, 2 sharp-edged knives, 1 face mask, 1 Gun shilling, 1 rope, 1 pair of shoes was recovered from his possession, police added.
Pertinent to mention here that similar incidents were also reported by the public in Police Station Chadoora & Police Station Charar-i-Sharief in the district and on which separate FIRs have been registered.
Budgam Police is investigating all such cases in which the accused appears to have adopted the same modus operandi to target the masjid going persons during wee hours and snatching their valuable items by threatening them with dummy weapons.
Further investigation into the matter is going on, police said.
