Jammu:Known for its professional policing and one of the most disciplined forces in the country, Jammu and Kashmir Police is always on the front-foot and similarly in the sports arena the organisation has tightened its belt to host ‘Run for Fun’ Jammu Marathon scheduled to be held on March 5.
The marathon would be held in different age categories will be flagged off by the Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh in the morning on March 5 at Gulshan Ground.
“Around 5000 athletes in various categories are expected to take part in the Jammu Marathon,” said a senior police official.
He added that the first category will be of 21 km (half marathon) in men’s category, the second category is of above-18 years, 10 km road race (women), in third category, the marathon is Under-18 years category 10 km road race (boys).
Other categories are Under-18 years, 10 km road race (girls), above 45 years 10 km road race (veteran men), above 45 years 10 km road race (veteran women), Under-14 5-km Sub Junior Boys, Under-14 4-km Sub Junior Girls, 2-km specially abled (male), 2-km specially abled (female) and 3-km run for fun for all senior citizens, men, women and children.
“All arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the marathon,” he added and said that cash reward worth Rs 6.37 lakhs and consolation prizes will also be distributed among winners of different categories.
