Srinagar: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers in the Kashmir valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A Police Party of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district at a checkpoint established at Bogund crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
During the search, 700 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Shakir Gulzar Bhat a resident of Cenigam, Kulgam. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
In Baramulla, a police party at a checkpoint established at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi Crossing Baramulla intercepted a vehicle (Santro) driven by one Mozim Manzoor, a resident of Khadniyar Baramulla.
During the search, 22 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Meanwhile, officers from Police Station Chandoosa arrested a drug peddler identified as Amir Hussain Khan resident of Muran Tangwari Chandoosa and recovered 25 grams of Charas from his possession.
He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
In Budgam, Police received information that 2 persons identified as Abdul Rashid Lone and Shakir Ahmad Lone, both residents of Badran have concealed narcotic substances at their residence.
Accordingly, a police team from Police Station Magam raided the specific locations and during the search 31kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from the said house of the accused persons.
One of the accused person Abdul Rashid Lone was arrested on the spot however, another accused Shakir Ahmad is absconding and efforts are on to nab him.
Meanwhile, a Police Party Police Station Magam at a checkpoint established at Badran crossing near bridge intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
During the search, 272 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon plus,3 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and a cash amount of Rs 35570 (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) were recovered from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Irfan Ahmad Lone, a resident of Badran who was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, police said.
