Weather improves after rains, snowfall lashed Kashmir valley  

Srinagar: Weather has improved and is likely to remain dry on Friday after parts of Kashmir valley received snowfall and other areas experienced rains during the past 24 hours.

Meteorological forecast of scattered to fairly widespread light rain, snow and traces over Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

Srinagar received 30.8mm of rainfall, Qazigund 27.6mm, Pahalgam 38.0mm of rainfall and 7.4 Cms of snowfall, Kupwara 38.0mm of rainfall and 32.0 Cms of snowfall, Kokernag 22.6mm of rainfall and Gulmarg 36.6mm of rainfall and 33.0 Cms of snowfall during the past 24 hours till 0830 hours on Friday MeT office said, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.7 degree Celsius on Friday against 0.8 degree Celsius a day ago. It was 0.5 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded 1.0 degree Celsius against minus 0.8 degree Celsius a day ago. It was 2.0 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the year.

Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 0.3 degree Celsius against minus 2.4 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 4.7 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season for the valley of shepherds.

Kokernag had a low of 0.6 degree Celsius on Friday against minus 0.6 degree Celsius which was 2.1 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded at minus 4.0 against minus 4.2 on Thursday. It was 2.2 degree Celsius above normal for the tourist resort during this period of the season.

The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of minus 0.5 degree Celsius against 2.3 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 0.7 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season, MeT office said.
