Patna: Bihar Chief MinisterNitish Kumar on Monday directed the officials concerned not to procure stubble from farmers found indulging in burning stubble.
Kumar during a high-level meeting to review the progress of paddy procurement, said that the pace of procurement in all districts should be increased to achieve the target fixed by the state government.
As per provision, farmers should be paid against procurement of paddy from them including interest of two months and also additional payment of Rs 10 per quintal of paddy for its handling and transport management, he added.
The Chief Minister directed the officials concerned not to procure paddy from farmers indulged in stubble burning.
Somer farmers were engaged in bad practice of stubble burning causing extreme damage to fertility of land, he added.
Kumar said all attempts should be made to make aware farmers against bad practice of stubble burning It was also causing damage to climate and ecology, he warned.
Chief Minister said that Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur and its adjoining districts were areas of high yielding paddy.Steps should be taken to procure adequate paddy from willing farmers there, he stressed. UNI
