Kerala blank Jammu 3-0 in Santosh Trophy

Kozhikode: Defending champions Kerala defeated Jammu & Kashmir 3-0 to garner full points in Group-2 of the preliminary stage matches of the 76th Santosh Trophy football championship played at EMS Corporation stadium here on Thursday.
In the barren first half, Jammu played a well defensive game. But Kerala changed their game plan in the second half and sharpened their attacks and found the target through Viknesh in the 51th minute and Rizwan Ali in the 76th minute. Gilbert scored the last goal in the 93rd minute (injury time) as the hosts registered their fourth consecutive win.
Through this victory, Kerala topped the table list with 12 points, followed by Mizoram (12 points), while Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan stood in the third and fourth positions with four points each. Bihar and Andhra Pradesh were in fifth and sixth position respectively in Group-2.
Kerala will clash with Mizoram in the last league match on January 8 to decide the Group-2 winners. Kerala and Mizoram secured 12 points each from four matches, but Kerala (19) were ahead of Mizoram (13) for better goal average.
On January 7, Bihar will take on Rajasthan and Andhra will meet Jammu & Kashmir in their last league matches. UNI
