UP: 3 arrested for attack on police team

Firozabad (UP): Three persons were arrested by the police on charges of holding a police party captive, thrashing cops and creating obstruction in government work from Khairgarh area of the district on Wednesday, police sources said.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ran Vijay Singh said that on Monday evening a police team led by police outpost in-charge Manoj Phonia went to Shayomai village on the information of firing by some people. “As the police team reached the spot accused Raghavendra along with his aide entered a house and when the team entered the house the women of the family locked the doors and held Manoj captive,” he said.

The SP said that later the women thrashed the outpost in-charge and tore his uniform. “Later in-charge of Khairgarh police station along with the police force reached the spot and rescued the team. Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar lodged a case against five persons in this regard and efforts were being made to arrest the accused,” he said.

He said that on Wednesday the police received a tip off that the main accused Raghavendra was present in his house. “Acting on the tip off the police raided the place and arrested Raghavendra, his wife Sangita and sister Dolly. The arrested accused have been sent to jail after legal procedure and efforts are being made to arrest the remaining two accused,” he said.

This court should not interfere with this, and please respect separation of powers. At most, the Supreme Court can only make suggestions. The Supreme cannot issue a mandamus to parliament. Just because a better system is demanded, does not mean there is a vacuum, he argued.
