Srinagar experiences first coldest night

Srinagar: Srinagar faced the season’s first below freezing point night as the temperature dipped to minus 0.8 degree Celsius. The tourist hub of Pahalgam was the coldest place in the Kashmir Valley with a low of minus 4.8 degree Celsius on Wednesday, officials said.

The night temperature in Srinagar went below the freezing point for the first time this season, with the mercury settling at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius overnight against 0.2 degree a day ago.
The cold weather conditions continue to prevail in Srinagar and its adjoining areas, with the sun appearing coupled with mild fog. However, the maximum temperature was 1.2 degrees Celsius above normal against the 13.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday during this period.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Kashmir Valley, with the minimum temperature plunging to minus 4.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday against minus 4.2 degrees Celsius a day ago.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered the temperature at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, which was 0.3 degree down from the previous night.
The night temperatures in other parts of the Valley also settled below freezing point: Kupwara minus 2.9 degrees Celsius, Qazigund minus 1.6 degrees Celsius and Kukernag recorded a low of 0.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday.
