SC orders status quo on 27pc reservation to OBC in local bodies in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Thursday said that the status quo should be maintained till next date of hearing on November 28 in connection with the hearing on a plea challenging the promulgation of an ordinance by Maharashtra government which provided a blanket 27 per cent reservation in the local bodies to those belonging to the OBCs.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said, the status quo be maintained till further hearing on November 28.
The apex court was apprised today that the elections of 23 Municipal Corporations, Nagar Panchayats were pending in Maharashtra.
The Supreme Court was hearing the plea challenging the promulgation of an ordinance by Maharashtra government which provided for a blanket 27 per cent reservation in the local bodies to those belonging to the OBCs.
