Injured SE succumbs as Doda road mishap toll swells to 4

Jammu: An injured Superintendent Engineer of Public Works Department succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital Doda thus taking the toll to four in a tragic road accident on Monday in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Two senior government employees of the Public Works Department (R&B) and a driver this morning died on the spot and the Superintendent Engineer suffered critical injuries when a vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a gorge near Chenab river at Assar area of Doda district.

An official vehicle of the department was on way towards Doda when it plunged into a gorge at Assar in which four employees including Superintendent Engineer of Public Works Department in Doda Kishtwar circle, Executive Engineer of department Doda, an Assistant Executive Engineer and driver were on board.

“Superintendent Engineer was rescued from the site of the accident in critical condition and shifted to the Government Medical College Doda where he succumbed while three other employees had earlier died on the spot,” they said.

The deceased were identified as Executive Engineer Rafeeq Ahmed Sheikh, Assistant Executive Engineer, K K Sharma, Superintending Engineer Suresh Kumar and Driver Mohammad Hafiz.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh expressed condolences terming it a huge loss to the department as well as the society.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressing condolences said, “pained by the loss of lives due to an accident in Doda. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar has also condoled the demise of officials and said that the officials were dedicated to towards their works and performed their duties diligently and honestly.

He expressed deep sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.
Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta expressed shock at the untimely, accidental death of the employees.

In his condolence message, Dr Mehta remarked that it was a matter of great sorrow and disbelief and all the officers felt shocked at the unfortunate death.

The District Administration, Doda however, condoled the demise of employees. DC Doda Vishesh Paul Mahajan along with SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom in the morning rushed to the spot and monitored the rescue operation.

A condolence meeting was also held at the Conference Hall of the DC office, where the participants prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. The deceased officers and driver were remembered for their tireless and prompt service to the public as a part of District Administration.

Former minister and general Secretary, Democratic Alliance Party R S Chib, Former Minister and expressed shock and anguished over the deaths.

He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and said that it is an irreparable loss in which valuable lives have been lost.
