PM lays foundation stone for Vizag Fishing Harbour modernization with Rs 152 cr in AP

Visakhapatnam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for modernization and upgradation of Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour (VFH) and other projects here on Saturday.

Since the establishment of the fishing harbor in 1976 by Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) with an investment of Rs 525 lakhs, there has been no major investment except for general repairs and maintenance of harbour,the Port said in a release here.

Now, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , have taken a decision for Modernisation and upgradation of Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour with an investment of Rs.152 crores.

Situated in 24 hectares of land with a Wharf length of 1300 Mtrs, 5 fishing jetties, 1300 fishing vessels, 150 tons of fish catch per day, 700 mechanized boats, 450 motorized boats, 15 beach landing crafts and 150 non-motorized traditional crafts are operating at VFH.

The existing fishing harbor is being modernized with world class facilities to improve the Fish cash, storage, exports and quality of life with good ambience and provide employment to additional 15,000 families.

The key takeaways of the project are – presently it is taking 2-hours to off load the boats and the entire process is manual. This is being automated with 40 tripods and due to this, will decrease the time taken to offload the fish; mechanized system from the boat to the auction hall; 20 mechanised dryers will be installed; chill room facility will be made available to store the unsold fish and capacity of 50 tones storage will be developed.

Besides developing of solid waste management system, also be developed e-auticon platform for selling of fish under modernization at the harbor.
