Kashmir Urs: Thousands attend Friday prayers   

Srinagar: Thousands assembled at the shrine of Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani, popularly known as “Peer Dastageer Sahab”, at Khanyar here to offer the concluding Friday prayers on the occasion of the annual Urs.

Men, women and children from all walks of life to offer thronged the shrine in downtown Srinagar.

A large number of devotees also participated in the night long prayers “Shab Khawani” at the shrine on Thursday during which special prayers were held for peace, stability and prosperity of the Kashmir Valley and the world.

The Imam at Khanyar led the Friday prayers from the arch of Gousia Park on the main road in view of the huge gathering. The roads leading to the shrine were closed for vehicular traffic to facilitate devotees to offer hustle free Friday prayers.

The devotees had a glimpse of the holy relic of the saint which was displayed before a large number of pilgrims after the Friday prayers. A similar function was also held at Sarai Bala in Srinagar.
