5 Lashkar men chargesheeted for abduction-murder of Kashmiri soldier   

Srinagar: The J&K Police in Kashmir on Monday produced a charge sheet against five accused in the abduction and murder of Kashmiri soldier in Budgam district in March this year.

Sameer Malla, a soldier with the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI), was on leave and went missing on March 7 and his body was recovered four days later from Khag in Budgam.

In 2019, soldier Malla was held guilty by a court martial along with his company commander Major Leetul Gogoi for “fraternising” with a local woman and “being away from the place of duty while in operational area”.

Police said the charge sheet was produced Monday against five accused including three militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba , who have already been killed, an over ground worker who is lodged in jail and a Pakistani militant who is still at large.

Those chargesheeted are Athar Illahi Sheikh, an OGW of LeT, who is presently lodged in Kot Bilawal jail and three militants already killed — Mohammad Yousuf Dar alias Kantroo, Faisal Hafeez Dar, Hilal Ahmad Sheikh alias Hanzullah; the foreign militant Ghazi Bhai alias Pathan Bhai alias Usman Bhai, who is still at large is Pakistani.

The police said during the course of investigation the OGW was apprehended who upon questioning admitted that he along with the other four militants abducted Malla and tortured him which resulted in his death.

The body was buried in a ditch in a nearby field, and accordingly Ather Illahi Sheikh was arrested.

“During (further) investigation/search 3 terrorists involved in the said crime got killed in anti-terror operation in Village Malwa Kunzar on 21/22 April 2022 while as one accused Ghazi Bhai, Pakistan origin terrorist is still at large,” a police statement said.

“During further investigation and collection of evidences in the case, offences under section 364, 302,392, 201,149 IPC,16,18,19,20,38,39 ULA(P) Act were established against the five accused and the charge sheet to this effect was produced before Court after obtaining the sanction from the competent authority,” the statement said.

As expert opinions were to be obtained from CFSL Chandigarh, the producing of charge sheet got a little bit delayed, police said
