2 non locals from Bihar & Nepal shot by militants in Anantnag
Srinagar: In yet another attack, two non locals were injured in a militant attack on Thursday evening in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The incident took place at about 7 pm in the Wanihama area of Anantnag.

Police said initial investigation revealed that both victims- one from Bihar and another from Nepal who were working at a private School at Wanihama area of Anantnag, were called by militants to come out to engage in a work.

“The moment they came out, terrorist fired upon them with pistol.. In this terror incident, both the labourers received gunshot injuries and were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment,” a police spokesman said

Soon after the shooting, the area was cordoned and search in the area is going on.

The duo injured have been identified as Bekuu Ram resident of Bihar and Tej Bahadur resident of Nepal.

Additional Director General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the culprits would be brought to justice soon.

“ This cowardice and inhumane act of terrorism is being investigated on top priority and the terrorists involved in this terror crime would be brought to justice soon,” Kumar said

This was the third attack on non locals and minorities in Kashmir in nearly three weeks.

On October 18, two non local migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh were killed in an overnight grenade attack in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack came three days after a Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead in the district .

There has been a spurt in targeted attacks on non locals and minorities in the last few years, especially after the Centre scrapped J&K special status in August 2019. This year, 17 civilians including six non locals, three Kashmiri Pandits and three non Mulsims from J&K have been killed.
