JVP plans protest in Colombo

Colombo: Sri Lanka’s most influential leftist party has announced massive protests in the Sri Lankan capital on Thursday against the country’s devastating economic crisis.
The Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP or People’s Liberation Front) said it planned to bring “thousands of supporters” to Colombo, The Island newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The protest will be the first since the government rescinded plans to have several high-security zones in Colombo.
The JVP is insisting on fresh elections, saying members of the incumbent Parliament have lost the moral authority to govern in the wake of the economic mess.
