Saharanpur (UP): Several vehicles were washed away in flash flood in areas around Maa Shakumbhari Devi temple caused by cloudburst in hilly area adjoining Saharanpur district on Saturday, police sources said here.
Police sources said the area around the temple site was flooded with heavy water causing panic. According to the local administration the hilly areas of Uttarakhand adjoining Saharanpur received torrential rains due to cloudburst late on Friday night and at around 4 am on Saturday.
Police sources said the temple area was also hit by the rain, which led to heavy waterlogging. “Some vehicles, including a loader and a three-wheeler were washed away in the flash flood, which were recovered after the water receded.
Tehsildar Prakash Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Munish Chandra reached the spot and launched relief and rescue work. “Due to waterlogging shops in the low lying area have been removed. Water started receding at around 10 am. It has been 10-12 days since the fair of Maa Shakumbhari ended,” he said.
He said it was a matter of relief that there is no crowd at the Shakumbhari Devi site these days as the fair had ended. “There was no casualty in the incident,” he said.
