Srinagar: Security forces arrested two “hybrid” militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.
They said the arrests were made at a joint checkpoint which was established by Police, Army and CRPF at village Trenz Shopian.
“During Checking of vehicles and frisking of pedestrians, movement of two suspected persons was noticed who on being challenged to stop started fleeing away from the spot but were chased and apprehended tactfully by the alert joint check point parties,” a police statement said. “Arms and ammunition including two pistols, two magazines, two grenades,20 9mm live rounds, an AK 47 magazine and 50 AK live rounds have been recovered from their possession.” police said.
Police on questioning the duo disclosed their names as Faizan Fayaz Bhat of Budden Rafiabad Sopore and Yawar Nizam Mir of Konsoo Shopian.
“During further questioning, they revealed their association with proscribed terrorist organisation LeT,” police added.
According to police the ‘hybrid’ militants are “terrorists who disguise as civilians”.
A case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Imam Sahib and further investigation into the matter was in progress.
