PM, political leaders and India Inc condole Cyrus Mistry’s death in road accident

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and India Inc expressed shock over the tragic death of former Tata Sons chairman and industrialist Cyrus Mistry in a road mishap on Sunday afternoon.

Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar while he was on his way from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

Mistry was only the second person outside Tata family to lead the Tata Group. He was the younger son of Pallonji Mistry.

In his condolence message, PM said that Mistry was a promising business leader and his untimely death is a big loss to the world of commerce and industry.

“The untimely demise of Shri Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic prowess. His passing away is a big loss to the world of commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace,” he tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi said that he was saddened by the tragic news of the demise of Mistry.

“He was amongst the brightest business minds of the country, who made a significant contribution to India’s growth story. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers,” Gandhi said.

Among the top business tycoons, Anand Mahindra said it was hard to digest the sad news.

“I got to know Cyrus well during his all-too-brief tenure as the head of the House of Tata. I was convinced he was destined for greatness. If life had other plans for him, so be it, but life itself should not have been snatched away from him. Om Shanti,” M&M Group top boss Anand Mahindra wrote on twitter.

RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka expressed shock over the passing away of Mistry in an accident.

“He was a friend, a gentleman, a man of substance. He was instrumental in creating the global construction giant Shapoorji Pallonji and ably led the Tata group,” Goenka said.
