INS Vikrant signifies India’s teeth in Indo-Pacific: Rajnath

Varanasi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the induction of the aircraft carrier ‘INS Vikrant’ into the Indian Navy is the first step to show India’s increasing power in the Indo-Pacific region.

On the second day of his two-day visit to Varanasi, Rajnath offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath temple on Saturday. Prior to this while talking to the mediapersons, he said India has become the seventh country in the world to manufacture such a huge aircraft carrier with indigenous technology. “This is the first step towards India’s increasing power as a powerful country in the Indo-Pacific region. Not only in the defence sector but India is becoming Atmanirbhar in other sectors as well.” he said.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned INS Vikrant into the Indian Navy in the presence of Rajnath on Friday. The country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier has been built by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The Defence Minister also offered prayers in Sankat Mochan temple.

On the first day of his visit, he attended a book release function. The book ‘Dekho Hamari Kashi’ authored by senior journalist Hemant Sharma was launched by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Dattatreya Hosabale in the presence of Rajnath on Friday.
