Bommai dismisses charges of delay in acting against Murugha seer
Mangaluru, Sep 2 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday dismissed charges against state government for delay in taking action against Murugha Mutt seer Shivamurthy Sharanaru who was arrested in a Pocso case for alleged sexual abuse of minor girls.
“There is no need to answer such talks. I had earlier said everything will be done as per law. We have given them (police) a free hand and they are doing their duty accordingly. Thus, in this context there is no need to elaborate on the issue,” he told reporters here.
Bommai is in Mangaluru to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation for mechanisation and industrialisation projects worth around Rs 3,800 crore and address a mega event.
Late Thursday, Chitradurga police took Murugha Sree into custody and took him to an undisclosed location for interrogation and later arrested. He was then produced before the district judge and sent to 14 days judicial custody.
The seer was brought to Chitradurga district jail. On Friday he was taken to a hospital after complains of chest pain.
Earlier this month, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had visited the mutt and offered Ishta Linga Deekshe.
Speaking on the issue, BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya had pressed for transferring the case outside Karnataka.
