ACB arrests govt official for demanding bribe in Baramulla
Srinagar: Anti Corruption Bureau on Thursday arrested a government official for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe for processing a loan case of complainant in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A statement of the ABC said that it received a complaint against one Manzoor Ahmad, Field Supervisor posted in the office of JK SC, ST & OBC Development Corporation, Baramulla for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 and demanding a bribe of Rs 4000 from the complainant for processing his loan case.
The complainant is running a Kiryana(provision) Shop at Old Town Baramulla and to expand his business about six months ago he had applied for a loan under the Scheme from SC, ST & OBC Development Corporation Baramulla.
However, the concerned field Supervisor and district officer were not sanctioning the loan in favour of the complainant.
The complainant alleged he visited the office for sanctioning of loan again where the field Supervisor demanded a bribe of Rs 4000.
The supervisor had told him that new district officers have joined and he will not sanction the loan without bribe money. However after deliberations the settlement was made to Pay Rs 2000 more instead of Rs 4000.
The complainant approached the ACB and requested for taking necessary legal action against the accused Public servant for taking a bribe of Rs 15000 and demanding a bribe of Rs 2000.
A case under relevant sections was registered at Police Station ACB Baramulla against the accused person and investigations were started during which a trap team was constituted.
The team caught the accused red handed while demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant at Baramulla.
He was arrested on spot after completing all legal formalities for further questioning and ascertaining the role of other persons. Searches were also conducted at the residence of the accused.
Further investigations are going on, the ABC statement said.
