Gyanvapi case: Petition to file FIR dismissed

Varanasi: The district court has dismissed a criminal review petition seeking its direction to file an FIR against a member of the Gyanvapi mosque committee for making efforts to convert the religious character and core structure of Kashi Vishweshwar temple.

The petition filed by Jitendra Singh was dismissed by District Judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha on June 27.

The judges said the applicant has not explicitly mentioned any fact on the basis of which any cognizable offense appears to have been committed.

The court said the lower court had made no mistake in rejecting the application of the applicant.

On June 14, an application was moved in the district court seeking direction to file an FIR against an office-bearer of Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, which oversees the management of Gyanvapi mosque.

The plaintiff stated that Kashi Vishweshwar temple is situated at Gyanvapi premises in Varanasi. He stated that the Mughal intruders made nefarious efforts to destroy or expunge the structure of the temple but its core structure remained unsullied.

The plaintiff stated that the Anjuman Intezamia Committee and its followers were making efforts to change the religious character and core structure of the temple.
