7 die as ambulance rams into truck in Bareilly

Bareilly (UP): Seven persons were killed when an ambulance taking a patient from AIIMS Delhi to Pilibhit rammed into a mini-truck in Fatehgunj area here on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Sajwan said that six persons were returning from Delhi after check-up of a patient at AIIMS and were going to Pilibhit. “Near Sankha bridge the driver of the ambulance lost control over the vehicle after which it climbed on the divider and rammed into the mini-truck coming from the opposite direction,” he said.
He said that six persons, including the patient and the driver, were seriously injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead. “Those killed in the incident included Arif, his father Khursheed, mother Sameeran Begum, aunty Sameer Bano, Shakeel Khan, Mohammad Zafar and ambulance driver Mehndi Khan,” he said.
The SSP said that while six persons were residents of Bahraich, the driver was resident of Bareilly. “The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem examination,” he said.
District Magistrate Shivakant Dwivedi and Sajwan reached the spot and launched a rescue and relief operation.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over loss of lives in the accident.
