Modi releases benefits to covid orphaned children in UT under PM Cares scheme

Puducherry: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday participated in a virtual meeting and distributed passbooks, under PM Cares for children scheme, for those orphaned during Covid in the Union Territory.
He released a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to the orphaned children, besides a Health Card for  Rs 5 lakh  under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

Chief Minister N Rangaswamy, his Cabinet Colleagues, Assembly speaker R Selvam, and Deputy speaker P Rajavelu besides senior officials participated  in the meeting.

According to a release from Union Territory of Puducherry Child Protection Society (CPS)  under the department of Women and Child development, the PM Cares  for Children scheme was launched by Modi on May 29  to support children who have lost both the Parents or legal Guardian or Adoptive Parents or Surviving Parent to COVID-19 pandemic during the period starting from  March 11, 2020.

In Puducherry 12 children lost both their parents and  376 either their father or mother during the pandemic.

The CPS as an immediate relief had remitted Rs.2000 each every month in the bank accounts of 12 children  till April 2022. The 12 children were registered in the website  “pmcares for children.in”.

A sum of Rs.50,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs.50,000 from the Revenue Department had already been remitted to the bank accounts of the 12 children.

It was also ensured that the 12 children could study in the same school without any hindrance and they are also being enrolled in the central government’s pre-Matric and Post-Matric educational scholarship scheme, the release added.
