Two local militants killed in Kashmir encounter
Srinagar: Security forces shot dead two local militants in an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
In the last four days, 12 militants, including six suspected Pakistanis, have been killed in five gunfights in Kashmir.

Police said the latest gun battle erupted at Shitipora Bijbehara during an anti-militancy operation, which was launched on specific information generated by police regarding the presence of militants in the area.

“As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately, which was retaliated. In the ensuing gun battle, two terrorists were killed,” a police spokesman said.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar identified the two as Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie of Anantnag and Yawar Ayub Dar of Awantipora.

“Both were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). The duo were involved in several terror crimes,” IGP Kashmir said.

Security officials said Ishfaq was active from March, 2020 and Yawar from December, 2021.

“The successful operation by security forces has dealt a major blow to HM cadre in South Kashmir and dented the nefarious designs of terrorist cadres to target the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra,” a senior security official in south Kashmir said.

Incriminating material, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter, police said.

The IGP Kashmir congratulated the joint forces for carrying out the anti-terrorist operation in professional manner without any collateral damage.
