Varanasi top cop urges Gyanvapi Masjid panel to ensure peace

Varanasi: The Anjuman Intazamiya Masajid Committee, which manages the Gyanvapi mosque, held a meeting with Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh on Saturday here.
At the meeting, the top cop urged the committee members to follow the court order and ensure that the sealed portion of the wuzu khana (ablution pond) and other inscriptions remain intact.
The police official also discussed on the need to maintain peace and harmony among both communities, especially in the wake of upcoming festivals.
He asked the committee members to keep a close watch on anti-social elements who might try to instigate violence.
Meanwhile, SM Yasin, office bearer of the Anjuman Intezamia masajid committee, said that the wuzu khana is a water fountain and not a shivling.
The Supreme Court on Friday transferred the case related to plea for worship at Gyanvapi mosque for consideration by the District Judge in Varanasi, saying in a view of complexity of matters, a senior and experienced judicial officer of the Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial Service should examine it.
A bench of the apex court headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud passed the interim order.
